My pharmacist tried to give me a “generic” form of Avenova. Is it the same product?

Avenova with Neutrox has been shown to be very non-toxic.  There are a few “lid and lash” cleaning products that contain hypochlorous acid.  These products, while active, are considerably more toxic due to the presence of “bleach”.  Other lid and lash cleansers contain excipients/preservatives such as soaps, detergents, oils, benzalkonium chloride (as preservative).  There is significant toxicity associated with these products, especially those preserved with benzalkonium chloride.

What are the side effects associated with lid and lash cleansers containing surfactants?

These ingredients increase the risk of developing contact dermatitis and other irritations. Avenova is a clean and elegant formulation that contains Neutrox®, thus eliminating the chances of reaction to the formulation.

What differentiates Avenova from the other lid and lash cleansers available on the market?

Avenova contains Neutrox®, NovaBay’s proprietary, pure, stable form of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) without bleach impurities.

Where can I buy Avenova?

Avenova can be purchased through the majority of all pharmacies, including CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Costco, Kroger, Safeway and Target. Additionally, Avenova can be purchased through participating eye doctors’ offices. To find the closest optometrist or ophthalmologist to you, please visit Find a Doctor.

Why does Avenova have a chlorine-like odor similar to bleach?

The composition of Neutrox® is chemically close to chlorine without it’s toxicity, thus Avenova has a slight chlorine odor.  Other “lid and lash” cleaning products that contain hypochlorous acid do not have the same clean formulation as Avenova and are more toxic due to the presence of “bleach”.

Why does Avenova require a prescription?

Avenova contains Neutrox®, NovaBay’s proprietary, pure, stable form of hypochlorous acid (HOCl).  Avenova was cleared by the FDA as a prescription medical device through the 510(k) process for cleansing and removal of microorganisms and debris from skin and wounds.

Avenova begins to lose its peak activity 30 days after the bottle is opened and the spray pump is inserted. Stored unopened, the bottle is good for roughly three years.

Why is Avenova in a glass and not in a plastic bottle?

Avenova has a  unique composition and must be kept in a glass bottle to maximize efficiency. Please exercise caution when handling the glass bottle to prevent accidental breakage.

Will Avenova hurt if it gets into my eyes?

If you do not have chlorine sensitivity, it should not burn, hurt or sting your eyes.  Avenova is not intended to be used in the eyes.
